Then, players place their bets, either by writing them down on a piece of paper or by transferring their bet from one pocket to another. Placing bets is important in poker, because doing so allows the players to alter their expectations about how much they can afford to lose. The total bet for each player is the final price, the bettor has to pay if he or she wins the hand, including any raised bets. After all, the price of the bet does not include the chips that changed hands, and the same goes for any chips that were folded, but are still in the playing hall.
